TikTok’s Venture into E-commerce

Throughout the past couple of years, social media as a whole has started to shift towards e-commerce. You can purchase from e-commerce companies on Facebook and Instagram, and now major player TikTok is moving into this space.

How are they going to do this, you ask? Well, the answer to that question has many layers. They are partnering with a couple of different companies to roll out e-commerce for both brands and TikTok creators. Here’s what we found out.

Shopify 

Shopify and TikTok have created the TikTok Sales Channel, which is an application that allows companies to create, run, and analyze TikTok campaigns all within the Shopify platform. Meaning, an e-commerce store can link their TikTok account to Shopify to create a more seamless experience with their customers.  According to Shopify, you can now easily:

  • Connect your TikTok ads manager account to Shopify

  • Install your pixel in 1 click 

  • Bind your payment method

  • Create TikTok conversion campaigns 

  • Create high quality, native TikTok style video ads in minutes

All of this, without ever leaving the Shopify platform! TikTok and Shopify believe this will create high conversion rates, and overall be a major advantage for e-commerce brands.

Teespring

In an effort to help TikTokers monetize their content, Teespring and TikTok are creating a process specifically for creators to sell their own merchandise directly from the app.  This will allow creators to choose from a variety of products, add their own design to them, and sell them right on TikTok. This will create a more streamlined e-commerce system for creators, and allow them to have more control over their own product. Teespring is currently testing this process with a small number of creators, however, the full details of this collaboration have not been released yet. 

What’s Next?

These new partnerships represent TikTok’s biggest leap towards integrating e-commerce into its platform, and there will definitely be more to come! E-commerce companies should definitely take advantage of Shopify’s TikTok sales channel, even if they haven’t created a TikTok just yet.  It is more and more evident that TikTok is going to keep growing, and will continue to break social media barriers.
